Labor / Sports Massage
Since ancient times, with the Greeks and Romans, massage was already used as a complement to sports medicine. It may involve passive stretching, myofascial release, relaxation maneuvers, invigorating maneuvers, therapeutic recovery maneuvers, etc., depending on the person's needs and the therapist's skills.
In fact, there is not much difference in the maneuvers, pressures and products used, but rather a specific direction for each type of athlete and need and even using the same maneuvers in both, there are variations in form, speed and mainly in the sequence of procedures, aiming very different effects.

There is no single protocol for this type of massage: it must be personalized for each athlete, according to the type of competition and according to the preparatory phase or after the competition.

Pre-Competition Sports
No massage therapist can perform the work of a physician or physiotherapist. In the case of confirmed and untreated injuries, the person should consult a healthcare professional for proper treatment.
It is used in order to prepare, maintain and recover muscle for those who practice physical exercises, increasing the performance of athletes and decreasing the incidence of injuries, muscle and joint pain.
It has a preventive and preparatory purpose. Mix smooth and deep movements. In general it should calm your muscles, but it should give you an invigorating feeling at the end of the session. Therefore, it starts with smooth and slow movements and progresses in speed and pressure, aiming to promote better blood circulation, preparing the person for exercise and enhancing their results.
In the case of specific injuries, the massage can work on the areas reducing and improving the injuries and, thanks to the therapist's sensitivity, can identify and work on the points that have not yet become injuries, preventing them and being able to adapt the treatment in accordance with those perceptions.
Confirmed and established injuries are indicative of postponing or canceling the competition.
Post-Competition Sports
No massage therapist can perform the work of a doctor or physical therapist. In the case of confirmed and untreated injuries, the person should consult a healthcare professional for proper treatment.
In this case, if there are chronic or acute injuries that are being treated by the appropriate professionals, the massage therapist can complement the treatment, helping to reduce the pain, provided that the massage therapist also has skills and knowledge for that specific area and can provide care without jeopardizing customer recovery.
The main objective of this massage is to promote the relaxation of tense muscles. Its maneuvers are calmer so that the body releases hormones such as oxytocin and endorphins that are responsible for calming the body, in addition to eliminating lactic acid, which is responsible for the so-called “pain the day after exercise”.
This term "sports massage" is used to define care protocols for physically active individuals, however, some even identical injuries can occur in non-sports individuals, but who perform repetitive efforts in their daily work. This is the case, for example, of computer users who acquire ischemic lateral epicondylitis - a severe pain in the elbow joint - well known as tennis elbow.
